Addictive Process: Perspectives and Possibilities
With Anita Vinson, MEd, LPC, Dana Lynne Andersen, MA and Jan McMurphey MS, LPC
January 28 - 30, 2019
This workshop will explore the addictive process from the perspectives of major contributors to the addiction treatment field. The authors whose works will be discussed include Gabor Mate, Maia Szalavitz, Lance Dodes, Terrance Gorski, J. Donald Walters, Carl Hart, and Johann Hari. The presentations will encompass both didactic and experiential approaches informed by the concepts of neuroplasticity, behavioral development, awareness continuum, mindfulness practices, and cultural contexts.
Art, music, movement and other types of expressive modalities will give participants experiences that are designed to explore the mind-body connection, increase awareness of these dimensions, and provide practice in deeper explorations of the self within community. As the addictive process decreases connection with self and others, working at the expressive/exposure boundary can be crucial to moving toward integration of mind-body experiences.
The workshop is designed for beginning and intermediate practitioners as well as anyone affected by the addictive process.
