Qigong Workshop: Movement, Energy & Meditation – Aug 2019

This one-day workshop will explore the ancient Chinese healing art of Qigong (chi kung). “Qi” (or “chi”) means “life energy” and “gong” (or “kung”) means “skill gained through practice”. The simple, accessible movements of qigong use posture, breath and mental focus to help us feel, develop, direct and balance the flow of life energy in our bodies.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- how to feel qi moving in your body
- the structure of your energy body
- the connection between posture, breath and mental focus
- a simple qigong form to cultivate and balance your qi
- qigong as a meditation and spiritual practice
- how to apply qigong principles to other forms of movement
This practical, experiential workshop will engage both your mind and body. Qigong forms are slow and gentle and accessible to most people. They can even be adapted and performed sitting in a chair. But like any form of exercise, it is advisable to check with your doctor before starting a new program of physical fitness.
Your instructor, David Seybert, was privileged to learn taiji and qigong from the first-generation American students of several traditional Chinese Taoist masters, including Cheng Man Ching, Jou Tsung Hwa and Marshall Ho. He is also practices kriya yoga in the lineage of Paramhansa Yogananda. He finds that taiji and qigong are very complementary to his yoga and meditation practice. All 4 disciplines work with the same fundamental building blocks of posture, breath, subtle energy, inner stillness and mental focus.
