Raising Your Energy: A Spiritual Yoga Retreat

With David Seybert and Miriam Rodgers

April 6 - 8, 2018

Pranayama is an important aspect of yoga practice that goes hand-in-hand with asanas. It is often taught simply as breathing exercises, but it has a deeper meaning. Prana is our life energy, or “life force.” Yama is the ability to control that life force.

In Raja Yoga, pranayama is used to control life force for a specific purpose.  It helps us to control and prevent our prana from becoming attached to and disturbed by our ordinary experiences. These repeated disturbances can form habitual thought patterns that negatively influence our actions and obscure our consciousness. In fact, Pantanjali defines the primary purpose of yoga as the neutralization of these delusive patterns.

In this retreat, we will learn and incorporate pranayama techniques into our asana and meditation practice and examine how they influence our awareness of both body & mind.

We’ll also take a fresh look at Paramhansa Yogananda’s Energization Exercises as a form of pranayama, which direct vital energy (prana) into your cells and organs through the use of will power and visualization.

Next retreats in series – “Beyond the Postures” followed by “Awakening the Chakras”
