Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters), internationally known author, lecturer and composer, is widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on yoga and meditation. He has taught these principles and techniques to hundreds of thousands of students around the world. He is the founder of nine Ananda Worldwide intentional communities. In 1948, at the age of 22, Donald Walters became a disciple of the great yogi master Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi, one of the greatest spiritual classics of all time.

Swami Kriyananda is author of the 2012 International Book Award winner, Paramhansa Yogananda: A Biography. The book was released worldwide this year on the 60th anniversary of Yogananda’s mahasamadhi, a yogi’s conscious passing. Now one of Yogananda’s few living direct disciples, Swami Kriyananda shares numerous stories and accounts of the Indian Yoga Master’s life not found in the classic Autobiography of a Yogi.
After 60 years of discipleship, Swami Kriyananda explains Yogananda’s legacy-his yoga teachings, the importance of cooperative communities, educational ideals and consciousness. Ananda Center at Laurelwood is an educational non-profit campus offering programs based on academic studies and self-exploration. The curriculum is based on pioneering educational work by Paramhansa Yogananda as expressed by his disciple, J. Donald Walters.
