Interns meditatingMeditation is an integral part of daily life at Ananda Center at Laurelwood. The meditation practices we teach are part of the path of Kriya Yoga, made widely known by Paramhansa Yogananda in his book Autobiography of a Yogi. Enjoy a meditation retreat, a private or group lesson, or join daily community meditations.

The Power of Meditation

Meditation is now recognized universally as a beneficial activity for mental and physical health. This practice improves mental concentration, stimulates creativity, relaxes physical tension and psychological stress and makes us more aware of ourselves  and compassionate towards others.

Learning Meditation

While it is possible to learn meditation from a book, it is helpful to learn it directly from people who have practiced it for a long time, in an environment that is peaceful and where meditation is practiced every day.  When you visit our retreat, you have the opportunity to learn techniques of meditation, practice them twice a day and learn a routine to take home with you. Experience the depth and power of a  technique used by millions of seekers for centuries. Learn the science of redirecting your focus inward to experience the rejuvenating stillness of meditation.

Whether you wish to broaden or deepen your current practice or you are brand new to meditation, you can learn and benefit from the techniques taught here. There are many respected and beneficial traditions and lineages of meditation practice.  What we practice and teach are the methods of kriya yoga, as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda, who is largely responsible for the introduction of meditation and yoga to the United States. These practices are effective and easy to learn, whether your goal is simple stress relief or awakening your consciousness to its fullest potential.
